CHARLESTON -- The Taxicab, Limousine & Paratransit Association (TLPA) has named Jeb Corey, C&H Taxi of Charleston, West Virginia, as its 2009 Taxicab Small Fleet Operator of the Year.
“We were deeply impressed by how Jeb Corey and C&H Taxi have embraced new technology to improve service, while also bringing a lot of energy and fun to the notion of community service and being a good neighbor in a way that is meaningful, memorable and effective,” Alfred LaGasse, Chief Executive Officer of the TLPA, said in a press release.
C&H has garnered attention for its Intoxi-Taxi™ service that keeps drunk drivers off the road by offering free taxi rides, with the catch that customers must say “Intoxi-Taxi” in order to be eligible for the free ride. The company also started a program to give free rides to low-income residents when taking their pets to the veterinarian to be spayed or neutered. Also, C&H’s “Captain Cab” mascot along with the company’s floating taxi used in Charleston’s “Anything That Floats Race” and other parades are well-recognized fixtures in the community.
Corey credits his philosophy of what he calls the “triple win” as the key behind the company’s success.
“The C&H experience has to be a triple win—for the passenger, for the driver and for the company—in order to be a success,” Corey said. “If any one of those parties is failing or unhappy, then things will fall apart.”
Corey will accept the award on Oct. 5 in front of nearly 1,000 industry peers at the TLPA’s annual convention, held this year at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas. This year marks the 91st Annual Convention & Trade Show for the TLPA, and is the world’s largest gathering of for-hire fleet executives.
Established in 1917, the Taxicab, Limousine & Paratransit Association (TLPA) is a non-profit trade association of and for the private passenger transportation industry. Its extensive membership spans the globe to include 1,000 taxicab companies, executive sedan and limousine services, airport shuttle fleets, non-emergency medical transportation companies, and paratransit services.
